A message or blog if you like from Vickyanne Wright and Rainbow Families:
Ok so I have always said this is not a political page here at Rainbow Families (and we all know how I kept to that when the Sochi Olympic issues arose, LOL). But this is a biggy and I just have something to say and yes it's a long one.
Yes everyone has the right to be served.
A N D yes everyone has a right to their own beliefs.
B U T don't shove your beliefs down my throat.
A N D I won't shove mine down yours.
B U T I do not want a wedding cake or anything else from someone who is gonna spit in it or on my chosen life. I would go elsewhere to spend my dollars happily with the bakery that is happy to serve me and make my wedding day wonderful.............
So should the government step in and make them pay for not letting someone step up to the peverbial "cake" counter (eg lunch counter)?
Let me just say in example:
If you go to a restaurant and receive poor service, will you go back or will you go to another restaurant the next time you want to spend your hard earned dollars to eat out and relax? Of course you go somewhere else.
You walk into a dress shop and are treated like you are a fat blimp......... do you leave without buying something......... of course you do. Then you go to the next shop walk in with your head held high and wait for the same thing to happen......... but it doesn't. And the staff are very helpful and make you feel beautiful in the dress you chose. Of course you buy the dress there and go back there the next time you need clothes.
We all want to believe that it is a perfect world, or that we want it to be. But if you are Black or LGBT in the southern US and many places all over the world, you still need to be careful.
Everyone is not a bigot, or "christian extremist". But there are enough that you still need to watch your back.
So let me just say to sum this all up, in my opinion of course............ walk away from the crap and find the happy.......... life is to short to worry about other people's hang ups. Don't allow anyone to bring you down to their level, they are so not worth it!
Do I think that this bakery in Oregon had a right to not serve this LGBT couple?
N O, I do not!
Do I think that the couple had a right to fight for equal service?
Y E S, of course they did, not just for themselves, but those that follow them.
Do I think that this should be taken to court to make them serve all who come to their business?
A B S O L U T E L Y, but I do not feel that they should be charged such and enormous fine. We have just made them "martyrs" in the "christian extremist's" eyes.
To be proven wrong and fined a nominal fee of say $500 would have been suffice. Now we will be hearing and living with this for the next while and both sides will be tossing back and forth their opinions........................... the shit has hit the perverbial fan, so to speak.
We are all given a free will and must make our own choices................
I choose to patronize businesses that give me good product and service;
I choose to spend my money where I receive the most for my dollar;
I choose to respect others opinions even if I do not agree with them;
I choose to speak my opinion with the hope everyone will treat me in the same fashion;
I choose to believe that there is good in all living creatures and an opportunity for all of us to work together to make this a better world for the next generation;
I choose to believe in L O V E.
If we could all just stop and remember..................
Love thy neighbor;
Don't judge;
Turn the other cheek;
Live and let Live;
Walk away from those who are not good for your life;
Embrace those who are enriching to your life;
Stay safe, be careful and take care of you and yours;
B U T, most of all L O V E, L O V E, L O V E and when you get done with that, love each other just a little more.................... <3 Vicky
